MANAGEMENT PLAN

The complexity and ambitious goals of the Alexandria Project require an effective and well-defined management plan. The plan outlined in this section is based in large part on the experience of the PIs and other participants in managing research enterprises of comparable magnitude, such as the NCGIA and the Sequoia project, and in managing a variety of academic departments and research centers. Of particular importance in the Alexandria Project is the need to manage and successfully integrate the research, development and evaluation of the testbed.

The management plan has the following goals:

The following sections address specific aspects of the management plan as it has been devised to meet the above goals. The structure of our management plan is shown in Figure X.

While we have attempted to define the plan in some detail, we are conscious of the need for flexibility and adaptability, particularly in a project that breaks substantially new ground. Thus the groups and individuals responsible for project oversight will be continually searching for ways to improve project management.
