COST SHARING
Next: MANAGEMENT PLAN
Up: ORGANIZATIONAL ROLES
Previous: OTHER LIBRARIES
As requested in the RFP, our proposal includes substantial cost
sharing from the participating institutions and corporations.
The total contributed in cash, salaries, equipment, and software
is substantially greater than the required 25of the project. The major contributions to cost sharing are as
follows, as detailed in the budget in Section 4:
-
a cash contribution by the University of California, Santa
Barbara of $100,000 per year for each year of the project;
-
a cash contribution by the State University of New York at
Buffalo of $40,000 per year for each year of the project;
-
partial salaries of key staff of the Map and Imagery
Laboratory (Carver and Larsgaard) and a full-time data entry
person, by the UCSB Library;
-
partial salaries for various key researchers at UCSB and
SUNY Buffalo;
-
a major equipment donation, software licenses, and the
salary of a full time design engineer for each year of the
project, by Digital Equipment Corporation (although Digital
has identified only its initial equipment donation, we
anticipate based on discussions that similar donations will
be forthcoming in the later years of the project);
-
donation of software licenses, and staff time for design
activities, by ConQuest Corporation and ESRI.
We anticipate that further contributions to the project will be
forthcoming. In particular, we are actively pursuing the
donation of a map document scanner, which would be used in the
later stages of the project for bulk data entry. Other
industrial partners may be asked to join as the project develops.
Finally, we anticipate that each test site will be asked to
contribute salaries and equipment as a condition of participation
in the test and evaluation program.
