The third NCGIA site, at the University of Maine, Orono, will also participate in Alexandria research. Much of the research on extracomputational issues will be carried out at Maine, together with some of the work on metadata, particularly in the development of standards. NCGIA's Research Initiative 16, on the legal issues raised by widespread use of digital geographic information, will be organized through the Maine site beginning in 1994. If this Digital Libraries proposal is funded, we would include its research issues in this area within the framework of the NCGIA research initiative.
