CRSEO's computing facilities comprise a heterogeneous network (Ethernet, FDDI, AppleTalk) of UNIX workstations (DEC, Sun, SGI, and IBM), personal computers (Macintosh and IBM-compatible), and X-window terminals. Online storage currently totals 65 GB. A variety of offline storage media (1/2-inch, 1/4-inch, 8mm and 4mm tape, rewritable optical disks, and CD-ROMs) are supported, with remote access to the 10 TB archive maintained by the Sequoia 2000 Project at the Berkeley campus. Special peripherals include color laser printers, a high-resolution 35mm slide scanner, a 1200 dpi page scanner with OCR software, a complete videotape mastering facility, and an HRPT ground station for direct reception of AVHRR, GOES, and SeaWiFS digital satellite imagery. Wide-area network connectivity includes the Internet, the Sequoia 2000 DS-3 intercampus network, ISDN teleconferencing facilities, and modem connections to Wilson, WY; Mammoth Lakes, CA; and Bermuda. A satellite DS-1 link to Palmer Station, Antarctica will be installed in the near future.
