DESCRIPTION

The game I have created is a modern version of the Greek mythological story of the twelve labors of Hercules. The plot of the computer game is centered around the main player character Hercules. I chose this iconic figure because even without introduction, most people are fairly familiar with him and his background. Hercules is the son of the almighty Zeus and a mortal mother. He is famous for his incredible strength, and wants to prove his worthiness the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus by accepting twelve assigned labors. Along his journey he encounters beastly creatures that he must defeat as well as collect specific items in order to complete his quests. It is up to the computer player to use his or her creativity and knowledge to discover how to complete each mission. MORE...

In this game I have tried to juxtapose the relationships of real life and virtual life by creating both realistic attributes to the game as well as magical happenings that could only exist within one's imagination. As in reality where nothing is handed to you on a silver platter, all the quests in the game are assigned with little direction other than the main goal. This gives the player both a challenge and the freedom to try and solve each mission. Of course, as the player completes each pursuit and advances to the next zone, the hunt will become increasingly more difficult. Along the way however, Hercules will be rewarded for his accomplishments by receiving items and trinkets that may contain magical powers that will further empower him. Even within the game stage one can see the contrast between what is real and what is not. The comparison becomes obviously when noticing the visible differences between the simplistic cartoon backgrounds and the more realistic player and creatures.

During the construction of this game, I was extremely focused on the graphics and components of the layout and structure of the game. I feel that by executing these gaming areas in full detail, the computer game becomes undoubtedly more exciting and polished. However, because of the detailed execution of my game and the fact I had to use an editor I was unfamiliar with, I was only able to complete a small portion of the game I desired. So far I have completed only the first few zones out of the twelve I had originally planned for. But, I will continue to expand and refine this game even after the quarter has ended, so feel free to contact me if you would like to see the progress I will be making in the future.
